Kenanga College was established in May 1999 and is situated in the East Campus of UNIMAS. The college started as Kenari College. In July 2002, the name was changed to Kenanga College and was open only to female students. However, beginning April 2004, it was open to both male and female students which included those who are enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Unit and PALAPES.

In September 2004, TUDM students were gradually moved to this college. Kenanga 1 then was opened to the SUKSIS students in July 2006. In addition, Kenanga 1 also provides accommodation for the local graduate students. Kenanga 1 has 66 student apartments which can accommodate 528 students. Each apartment can be occupied by 8 students. Female students occupy Block A and B while male students occupy Block C and D. Two apartments are allocated for the College Fellows while the college admistrative office is located at Block E.
